Watford head coach Valerien Ismael says the club will only act on deadline day if the right opportunity arises.

"I'm happy to work with with my squad, the size of my squad, but we assess always the market if we can get a good opportunity, then we will do it," he said. "You have to accept the market and not be frustrated because this is our decision and we think more maybe than the past."

The Athletic understands that the club is looking to recruit a left-footed centre-back, but Ismael is relaxed if that position or others aren't filled.

"We are talking with the board two times a day on different topics," he said.

"We have a open communication. We know exactly the profile of the players and when you reshape the club the next player has to pass into that profile."

Ismael says he will continue to assess the squad between now and January and then act in the next transfer window, and says that to reshape the squad it may take two or three further windows.

New signing Jamal Lewis from Newcastle remains out injured, but should be fit after the international break, while Francisco Sierralta may return on Saturday against Coventry.
