On Tuesday, a judge ruled that lawyers defending the disgraced producer, Harvey Weinstein, could read letters sent to him from the alleged victims who accused him of sexual assault, harassment, and using his position in the entertainment industry to abuse them sexually.

Justice James Burke ruled that it was permitted to use the emails, however, they couldn’t display them on a PowerPoint. Moreover, he ruled that they couldn’t display the actual emails.

Burke, in his oral decision in Manhattan Supreme Court, just one day before the trial kicks off, claimed it was consistent with the defense to be able to use the emails as proof of his argument. Moreover, Damon Cheronis, one of Harvey’s attornies, claims the women bragged about being in a sexual relationship with Harvey.

Thus far, it’s not entirely clear how many of the supposed victims sent affectionate emails to the embattled producer. Cheronis claimed that the state couldn’t “weave a story of power and anger and sexual assault” without a counter-defense.

Moreover, Harvey’s attorney claimed they would counter the claims using the defense’s own words against them. Reportedly, one of Harvey’s accusers told him that they “loved him,” and always would, but they didn’t like feeling like a “booty call.”

Joan Illuzzi-Orbon, the assistant district attorney, claims the defense’s characterization of Weinstein’s relationships was “blatantly inaccurate.” Reportedly, both sides, the defense, and the accusers will employ the use of PowerPoint slides to prove their points.

Followers of the case know that Harvey is facing several serious charges of sexual assault, including one count of rape, one criminal sex act, and two counts of predatory sexual assault. The charges come from the allegations of three different women.

One incident, in particular, is the case of Mimi Haleyi, who claims Harvey forced oral sex on her, in addition to another woman who claims the producer raped her seven years ago in 2013. The other sexual assault charges come from Annabella Sciorra, who accused Weinstein of raping her in the early 1990s. Annabella had a role in the classic series, The Sopranos.
